If you intend to change load control strategies, please call and we can help you with your options. SWPPD does allow customers to reduce their load management control one time after the season begins.
Some reasons for changing load control:
The fees for changing are as follows: Until May 16th - $50.00, after that it will cost $100. You may not increase load management control after May 31st.
Customers will also be required to pay the difference in horsepower demands charges back to the beginning of the year.
Remember: Plan chemigation around your scheduled load control days.
Control times are based on a 14 hour day from 9:00 am - 11:00 pm, but are limited to a maximum of 12 hours a day.
SWPPD requires a capacitor on any three-phase induction motor rated at 20 horsepower or higher. If you don’t have a capacitor or your existing one is damaged or inoperable, you are losing significant savings during the irrigation season. The capacitor will maintain a power factor as near to 95% as possible. If this capacitor is not connected to your motor, SWPPD will have to assess an additional 5% to the season’s irrigation bill to compensate for lost efficiency of your motor. Be sure to mention this to your electrician while inspecting your service.
Every year we receive several inquiries about what it would cost to switch to a different level of control. Using your billing horsepower and Kwh from last year, follow the step-by-step directions to estimate what a different control strategy would have cost. First, download the excel spreadsheet to plug in your numbers.
Directions:
1. Enter the highest billing horsepower from months June, July, August or September
2. Multiply that number by the appropriate cost multiplier, based on the Type of Control Strategy
3. Enter your season total KWH
4. Multiply that number by the KWH multiplier
5. Add lines 2 & 3 for an estimated cost of that Control Strategy
DISCLAIMER: THIS IS A VERY CLOSE ESTIMATE THAT ACCOUNTS FOR ALL ENERGY AND DEMAND CHARGES BILLED. IT DOES NOT ACCOUNT FOR FORFEITED DISCOUNTS, CAPACITOR CHARGES, OR APPLIED HORSEPOWER CREDITS.
